KiraKiraJin

KiraKiraJin literally translates to “sparkly person” in Japanese, and was a collaborative project to bring a variation on the Hot-or-Not concept to Japan.  We felt the ubiquity of mobile phones equipped with cameras in part validated the potential for the service to work locally.  Little did we anticipate the challenges but of a start-up environment in the heart of Tokyo.

When we started KiraKiraJin, we knew that cultural differences between the US and Japan meant simply replicating the US service would not be enough to succeed locally.  Our research led to, among other things, choosing a name that was positive in nature, going with a cute, clean design, providing interactive features tailored for the photogenic demographic, and of course a mobile interface.

Unfortunately our funding dried up faster than our rate of new users, and KiraKiraJin has been relegated to the Internet graveyard.
