MiiStation
If you’re a Nintendo Wii owner, you obviously know about the Mii Channel. MiiStation - a project birthed over a cheap spaghetti dinner and launched five days later - is a commercial service that provides custom Mii avatars for artistically challenged or time-constrained Wii owners. When an order is complete, we send the new Mii avatar to the customer’s Wii via the Internet.
Amusingly, approximately half of our orders continue to come from customers who don’t own a Wii! These users want a digital avatar for anything from chat clients, emails, presentations, even sales-team rosters. For these customers who want a Mii avatar as a digital photo, we email them a JPEG attachment.
MiiStation has been mentioned in the WallStreet Journal, and was chosen as a Time.com Best 50 Website for 2007. We continue to create Mii avatars for customers through MiiStation, but the process is laborious and we constantly seek areas for improvement. You can read more about the launch and aftermath on “MiiStation Stats or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love it All”.
